  • John Bustillo (Class of 2024) was appointed to the Presidential Cabinet at Yale Model Congress (Dec 2023) as the Secretary of Homeland Security. This is a coveted position that many high school students compete for across the country.

  • 17 MBA students led the New Haven Delegation of the 2023 Yale Model Congress (Dec 2023) where Kristine Figueroa and Andy Chen received honorable mentions for their performances in Committee.

  • CT Council of Language Teachers, COLT Artwork Contest, Kristine Figueroa won third place (2023)

  • State Open Girls 300 Meter Dash Champion: Nyia White (Wilbur Cross) (2020): Wilbur Cross’ Nyia White was tired during the 300 meters, but she took the lead in the last 50 meters and won in 40.60. Right behind for second was Samantha Forrest of Glastonbury in 40.71 and Michelle Schweitzer of Barlow was third in 40.93. “I was getting tired during the race, but I was so close I dug deep for a strong late kick,” White said. “I was close to the leaders and knew I had to do something. I used my arms and every ounce of energy I could find to push ahead and win.”

  • State Open Boys 4x200 Meter Relay Champion (2020): Jeremiah Williams (Wilbur Cross): 4×200 Meter Relay: 1. Wilbur Cross (Devin Cue, Armon Hyslop, Jeremiah Williams, Caleb Owen), 1:32.18

  • Class L Boys Track and Field Champion (2020): Justin Mills (Hillhouse): 4×400 relay: 1. 1 Hillhouse (Talib McBride, Justin Mills, Gary Moore Jr., Ralphael Hawkins) 3:29.73

  • Adrian Huq won Best Nonfiction Review award in the 9-12 category of the Rainbow Reader Summit (2019)

  • Metro's Expo Fest Team (2019) won second place in the Computer Science Challenge. Mel DeBlasio and Adrian Huq were selected to give the presentation on the main stage for the Big Pitch (for the third year in a row)! Website here. Sizzle reel here. Pictures here.

  • The eesmarts Annual Student Contest: Adrian Huq won 2nd place for their grant proposal to reduce our school's energy use. Over 800 students entered this contest across all grade levels! Adrian accepted the award May 13, 2019 at the CT State Capitol.

  • Metro's Expo Fest Team (2018) won second place in the Computer Science Challenge for their project: "EnviroQuest".  For the second year in a row, our team was also one of three selected to compete in the Big Pitch during the closing ceremony.  Check out their sizzle reel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arFtvEsApnc

  • New Haven Science Fair: Sophomore Adara Huq, with her "Evaluating the Effectiveness of Recycling Bins,” won the $100 Lily W. Science and Communications Award for "a scientifically sound project and excelling at communicating the results”. Freshmen I'anna Deleon and sophomore Noah Lowe won honorable mention for "Depression and Anxiety on Youth," and captured the attention of many judges, who encouraged them to continue and expand their research next year!  Freshmen Aekrama Ahmed and Nahom Kidane won third place for their timely "Up, Down goes the Climate Change" and are excited to continue learning more about climate change next year!   • Edgar 'Nico' Rivera, Class of 2020, will take over as the student representative on the Board of Education (2018)

  • Adara Huq, Class of 2020, scored in the top 5% (of over 3,000 videos submitted) for Khan Academy's Breakthrough Junior Challenge (2017)

  • Dominic DeMilo, Class of 2018, won the Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship for the New Haven School District (2017)

  • ExpoFest, 2nd place winner of Fresh Perspectives Level 1 NGSS Challenge (2017)

  • New Haven Science Fair: "Hot Potato, Hot Potato" (Adara Huq tested to see if food size affected carryover cooking time) won 2nd place and Special Award for Excellence in Science Communication; "Planets Turn into Grass" (Marqus Simmons planted seeds into different temperature atmospheres to see which one can best support life) earned an honorable mention (2017)

  • CT HOSA-Future Health Professionals, Spring Leadership Conference, state-wide 1st place winner in Human Growth and Development & 2nd place winner in Medical Law and Ethics (2017)

  • Member of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Affiliate School Program funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities (2017)

  • Canal Dock Inc./ New Haven Dragon Boat Regatta, 1st ever high school team & winner of "Best Campsite" (2016)

  • CT HOSA-Future Health Professionals, 1st place winner for Nutrition and Epidemiology, 2nd place winner for Public Health, Medical Law and Ethics, and Human Growth and Development (2016)
