Class of 2019
A Guide for Students, Family, Friends, and Staff
All seniors are required to attend rehearsal on Thursday, June 13 at 9:30am at Battell Chapel. Seniors can meet there or walk from MBA as a group at 9am.
The graduation ceremony, or commencement, will be held at Battell Chapel on Monday, June 17, 2019. It is located at 400 College Street in New Haven (on the corner of College Street and Elm Street). Guests should line up at the Elm Street entrance. Doors will open to guests at 6pm. The ceremony begins promptly at 6:30pm. Please note that balloons, air horns, posters, silly string, and other related items are not allowed inside Battell Chapel. Ushers will take them from guests upon entrance.
Seniors are asked to arrive around 5:45pm, and to get into line where we rehearsed. Faculty will assist graduates in getting in order for the procession, which will begin promptly at 6:30pm.
Seniors must meet graduation requirements set by MBA and NHPS, including community service, internship, and 21st Century Portfolio Presentation. When a student completes a portfolio presentation, they will receive a certificate from their advisor which must be presented to Dr. Chicoski to receive commencement tickets.
It is anticipated that each student will receive a maximum of eight (8) guest tickets if they meet all requirements and attend rehearsal. If you do not need all eight tickets, please leave them so that others may use them. Requests for extra tickets should be made to Dr. Chicoski. All guest seating is unreserved general admission. Guests should line up at the Elm Street entrance. Doors will open to guests at 6pm. Please note that balloons, air horns, posters, silly string, and other related items are not allowed inside Battell Chapel. Ushers will take them from guests upon entrance. Guests are expected to remain seated during the recessional at the end of the ceremony. Please do not attempt to leave the Chapel while the graduates are leaving. In nice weather, the Chapel's courtyard will be open to guests to take pictures and greet their graduates.
Seniors must wear the provided academic regalia. Cap, gown, stole packages cost $45. Please pay senior dues to Dr. Chicoski. Cash payments only. Regalia will be distributed at the end of the Senior Awards Ceremony scheduled for Monday, June 10 at 6pm. Students are permitted to decorate caps.
Parking and Handicap Accessible Entrances
Finding parking and the venue may take some time, because it is downtown New Haven where parking is somewhat limited. Metered street parking is available near Battell, which is located on the corner of Elm Street and College street. Some Yale lots are free to the public after 4pm. Handicap accessible entrances are located on High Street (enter "Old Campus" through High Street Gate) and also on College Street (enter "Old Campus" through Phelps Gate). Doors will open on the Elm Street entrance at 6pm.
MBA teachers and staff will have a designated seating area and do not require tickets to enter.
Our keynote speaker for the Class of 2019 will be Robyn Porter, State Representative proudly serving Hamden and New Haven. Click here for her bio.
